Seattle already is 2-0 versus Calgary this season. The games have not been close either. The Kraken have won 6-1 in each game both home and away. Now Seattle is going for its fifth consecutive victory against the Flames. I see the Kraken getting it here. Using a balanced attack, Seattle is the fifth highest scoring team in the NHL. Calgary, by contrast, ranks 27th in scoring. Until losing to Edmonton, 4-0, this past Wednesday the Flames had won four in a row riding the hot goaltending of Devin Cooley. However, Cooley suffered a lower body injury in that loss to the Oilers and is not expected to play for at least a couple of games. That puts Dustin Wolf likely back in net for Calgary. Wolf is having a rough season with a 1-4 record, 3.75 goals against average and an .879 save percentage. Wolf is a fade and so are the Flames without Cooley.

After playing five road games in eight days, the Kings return to Los Angeles to host Ottawa today. That is not good on either front for the Kings. It is a bad situational spot for LA having been gone for so long. The Kings' last home game was 12 days ago. The Kings also are 0-3 at Crypto.com Arena having been outscored, 10-3, in their home games. The Senators are playing for only the second time in five days. They are not going to lack motivation off a bad loss to Las Vegas two days ago. Ottawa, though, is now acclimated to West Coast time. The Senators are better than the Kings with a top 10 defense. LA is tied for the second worst record in the NHL. The Kings rank 26th in scoring and 28th defensively with the worst penalty kill in the league.

The last time the Packers hosted a Thursday night game was little more than a month ago. It did not go well. Green Bay was buried by the Falcons, 35-14. Now the Packers are hosting another NFC South Division team, Carolina. The Panthers crushed the Falcons, 34-3, back in Week 2. Atlanta was forced to start third string quarterback Cooper Rush in that game, but the Panthers still looked good. Now, though, we have a buy low spot on the Panthers coming off an embarrassing, 43-13, home loss to the Buccaneers last Sunday. Coincidentally, we have a sell high spot on the Packers, who are 3-1 SU and 4-0 ATS in their last four games. Carolina is 10-0 ATS the past two seasons following a regular season loss, including 2-0 this year. That's what you would call a great bounce back spread team. The Panthers also match up well to the Packers. Carolina QB Bryce Young has become adept in picking apart zone defenses and the Packers are a heavy Cover 2 defense under their new defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon. Green Bay also is without its two best linebackers, injured Edgerrin Cooper and Zaire Franklin. This sets up Chubba Hubbard, one of the more underrated running backs in the NFL. But these aren't the only key injuries the Packers have. Green Bay is down to its third string center after Sean Rhyan suffered an ankle injury. Second-string center Jacob Monk is on the injured list. Green Bay's strength is Jordan Love throwing deep to Christian Watson and Matthew Golden. However, Golden is questionable with a shoulder injury. There is a huge drop in wide receiving quality for Green Bay after those two.

James Madison beat Troy in the 2025 Sun Belt Conference title game last season, 31-14. The Dukes probably are still the best team in the Sun Belt Conference. But Troy has fallen way off. The Trojans are 1-4 in their last five games and off two awful defeats. They blew an 11-point lead with less than 3 minutes left, losing to previously winless Louisiana Monroe last week and were blown out by Louisiana, 33-6, two weeks ago. Troy's passing attack is broken. The Trojans rank 124th in passing yards. They had 47 passing yards against UL Monroe, which ranks 134th in scoring defense allowing 37.3 points a game. The Dukes average 41.4 points per game, fifth best in the country, and rank 25th in fewest points allowed at 18.3 per game This is a short week for the Trojans, too, having played last Saturday while James Madison played last Thursday.
